Your major gripe seems to be with the dropdown menu, since you use increased time to navigate the replay: This is so frustrating, please Valve fix this or at least give us the option to go back to the old system (might as well consider consulting those who are using it on a daily basis, my DM are open). It's probably not easy to fix but it's very confusing for the viewers and since I care about the experience of my viewers, instead of jumping right to the timer where the action is, I navigate through the replay by adjusting back and forth the speed of it to have a clean action without infinite status (yeah it's long and annoying).īut at least I could just hold the mouse click watch the replay while moving right to speed up, left to slow the pace, without having to look at my cursors every 3 seconds.

whatever the status is, because basically, if you jump in a middle of one of these status, I believe the code behind doesn't detect when it starts and when it ends, that's probably why it leaves it to permanent (yeah, that's why you see this bug a lot of times on dota videos, official tournaments, or even in True Sight and TI streams when analysts are watching replays.). It's a big step back because there are countless of bugs related to different status (stun, silence, root.), if you click the timeline too close to where you want to see the action, you'll get people perma stunned/silence/root or infinite sandstorm, infinite OD astral etc. Timers: first, the timer has been removed from the cursor, so not only you now have to jump approximatively to find the timestamp you want to see (which is already annoying in itself), the length of the total timeline was also divided by like 4. Trust me I've been using the replay system to make videos since 2014 almost daily, (we are talking thousands of hours of editing) and these two changes are absolutely problematic in term of UX. Now why is that a problem? Let me explain: Timers don't show anymore and the timeline has been shortened No more cursors to navigate through the speed pace (x1 x2 x4 x8 x16), you have to manually click +/- or select the speed in the list.

Let's get to the two major changes that were made in the today's update regarding the replay navigation system: skipping the hero intro is pretty convenient I don't like to make things look bad only, so I'll start with the good thing: If you think you know more about the game than your friend, try to let them handle generating excitement and you explain the pro's actions.Hey guys, I'm a dota creator on youtube (elwono) and would like to complain about the new camera mode in replays.Īlthough it might feel like a minor change for most of you, for us creators using the replay system very often, it's a big change and in the wrong way. If you have paid some attention to casters like Tobi, they typically pair up with a color commentator who can offer more indepth knowledge about the game, like Synderen for example. Since you mentioned that you are working with a friend, try to figure out each of your strengths. Always try to work on saying relevant information to the game, but not having dead air try not to be like Ayesee back when he was new to Dota, "turning a bagel into a breadstick" comes to mind, just don't do it. If you cannot cast without it, your casting abilities lack more than you may think. Response times on dev.dota2 about small issues like this are famously slow.Īside from that, not having this feature while trying to become an amateur caster should not be a big deal. You could probably pick up some support if you were to post this on a site with a larger Dota 2 following, like Reddit's /r/dota2, and possibly get Valve to notice. Given this recent suggestion to the Dota 2 dev forums and an older post, I do not think that drawing on the terrain while spectating or watching a replay is possible at all in the current build of Dota 2.
